West Texas A&M’s Tobias Harris was named to the College Football America Yearbook 2020 Division II Starting Lineup on Wednesday. The junior was one of three players from the Lone Star Conference selected as part of CFA’s version of a preseason All-American team.
Harris, a native of Pflugerville, had an impressive sophomore season in 2019 where he earned All-American honors from D2Football.com, Associated Press and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as a return specialist. He finished the season with the second-most combined return yards in NCAA DII, 1,007, trailing only Missouri Western’s Trey Vaval.
He was one of the top punt returners in the nation as he recorded a program record 436 yards and a touchdown on 19 returns. He ranked first in NCAA DII and second in all of college football in punt return average (22.9) behind Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle. He also broke the program record for career punt return yards (756) with his 72-yard touchdown return in WT’s comeback victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
He was equally impressive as a kick returner, with 25 returns for 571 yards and a touchdown. He ranked third in the LSC in kick return average (22.8). His first career kickoff return came in the second game of the season against William Jewell with a 90-yard return in the first quarter.
