The New Mexico State women’s basketball team added two transfers, head coach Brooke Atkinson announced on Tuesday morning.
The Aggies added two transfer forwards with 6-2 Kayla Watkins and 6-3 Bigue Sarr set to join the squad for the 2021-22 season.
Watkins, a Weber State transfer, played in 74 games for the Wildcats and averaged 8.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Her best year came in 2018-19 when the Seattle native averaged 12.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Coming out of high school, Watkins was rated a three star recruit by ESPN.com and 47th at her position.
“Kayla is a highly-skilled big that can stretch the floor and has the ability to score both inside and out,” Atkinson said.
Sarr comes to the Mesilla Valley by way of Oklahoma State where she appeared in 43 games over two seasons. Prior to her stint in Stillwater, Sarr was an All-Region honoree at South Georgia Tech where she helped lead the Lady Jets to their third-straight NJCAA Region XVII championship. The Dakar, Senegal, native averaged 11.5 points and 8.7 rebounds during the Lady Jets’ title run. Sarr is also a solid defender, ranking 13th in NJCAA with 66 blocks her sophomore season.
“Bigue will bring a high level of junior college and D1 playing experience to our team,” said Atkinson. “Her length and athleticism will help us on both ends of the floor.”
