West Texas A&M’s women’s basketball head coach Kristen Mattio has announced the addition of Denton, Texas native Callie Boyles for the 2021-22 campaign. Boyles joins Averee Kleinhans and Kailtyn Pivniska in WT’s signing class.
“Callie is an outstanding young lady that will be a great fit in our program. Her size, tremendous versatility in the paint and ability to stretch to the perimeter will bode well into our style of play. She is the type of player that whatever you need her to do, she will step up and get it done for her team” said Mattio “We had the opportunity to watch and recruit Callie when she was in high school and really loved how intentional she was at wanting to perform with excellence in all areas, including her academics. We look forward to coaching Callie and we know she is ready to make an immediate impact on the court for us. Callie will be an excellent ambassador for West Texas A&M.”
Boyles comes to Canyon following two seasons at former Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State where she saw time in 42 career games for the Texans with three starts. During Tarleton’s first season in the Western Athletic Conference in 2020-21, Boyles went 26-of-68 (38.2%) from the floor including 23-of-29 (79.3%) from the charity stripe to average 6.1 points per game while grabbing 55 rebounds and blocking a team-high 23 shots.
She was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Aimee Kilgore at Denton Guyer High School where she was a McDonald’s All-American nominee. Boyles led the Wildcats to a District Championship while claiming All-District accolades, she also excelled in the classroom as an Academic All-State honoree.
