UT Tyler defense eliminates MSU

UT Tyler entered the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament with the best field goal percentage defense in the LSC.

Midwestern State’s offense succumbed to the suffocating zone defense of the Patriots in a 55-38 loss Tuesday at the Herrington Patriot Center in Tyler.

After completing a transition from Division III, the Patriots earned their first postseason victory in their first attempt at the NCAA Division II level. As a result, UT Tyler advances to the quarterfinals against Texas Woman’s at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.

The Mustangs were held to their lowest field goal percentage in a game since Feb. 27, 2020, making 14 of 68 shots (20.6 percent) in the contest.

Senior Hannah Reynolds had a double-double to finish her storied career with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Frances King joined Reynolds in double figures with 10 points. Liah Davis recorded a double-double posting 10 points and 14 rebounds for UT Tyler.
