Rae Boothe has announced the hiring of former SEC basketball player La’Karis Salter as an Assistant Coach for the Women’s Basketball program.
“I’m thrilled to have La’Karis on our staff,” said Boothe. “She has done extremely well everywhere she has been. I am confident that she will elevate our program in every way! Her playing career speaks for itself. Our athletes will grow tremendously by her experience at a high level and her mentorship. Coach K will be working primarily as our post position coach on the court. Off the court, she will help ensure our student-athletes reach their goals in the classroom. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the start of her journey of what will be a long and successful college coaching career.”
During her colligate years she played at Mississippi State, Jacksonville University, and Ole Miss where she recorded multiple double-doubles and was one of three players who participated in all 31 games during the 2018-19 season at Ole Miss.
Prior to UTPB, Salter served as the Assistant Branch Manager for Republic Finance LLC. After her last season playing basketball for the Ole Miss, she focused on helping youth develop their athletic abilities. This included working with her former AAU travel team, Essence Girls Basketball, and the Oxford Park Commission where she served as a coach and referee for children ages 6-16. She is known for her welcoming personality, tenacious work ethic and passion for making a positive difference wherever she goes.
Coming out of Florida A&M Developmental Research School, she was a four star prospect who rated No. 89 nationally and No. 18 at the forward position by ESPN/HoopGurlz.
“I am so excited to work alongside Coach Boothe and her staff,” said Salter. “Her energy and the family environment was evident the moment I stepped on campus. I saw the vision for the program and I am delighted to be a part of the team that will make it happen.”
