Grambling 79, Alcorn 74
Cameron Christon tied his career-high with 24 points, and three Tigers scored in double figures as the Grambling State University men’s basketball team cruised past Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Alcorn State, 79-74, Tuesday evening in the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Cameron Christian paced the Tigers offense with a game high 24 points, four rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block. Terreon Randolph posted a double-double, including 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals while Reyhan Cobb chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds for Grambling.
Kurk Lee paced Alcorn State (2-5 overall, 2-1 SWAC) with 20 points, four rebounds and six assists. Troymain Crosby tallied 18 points, five rebounds and one steal while Tyree Corbett added 15 points, six rebounds and one assist for the Braves.
Grambling State returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 16 against Texas Southern. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m CT in H&PE Arena in Houston.
Alabama State 64, Mississippi Valley State 51
Alabama State withstood an early second half run from Mississippi Valley State and used a career night from Kevion Stewart to pull out a road Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over the Delta Devils 64-51 Tuesday night.
Stewart finished the night with a career-high 19 points with five three-pointers, while Kenny Strawbridge recorded his second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Battle narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.
The Hornets finished the night shooting 45.1 (23-for-51) percent from the floor and 50 (10-for-20) percent from beyond the arc.
Meanwhile, Caleb Hunter led Mississippi Valley State with 22 points and Terry Collins added 12.
Alabama State returns to action Saturday afternoon on the road in Huntsville against in-state foe Alabama A&M. Tip is scheduled for 4:30 pm at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium, and the game will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network.
