UIW 68, Houston Baptist 59

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women’s basketball team put on a first-half show against Houston Baptist to win, 68-59, in the season home finale on Wednesday evening in the McDermott Center.

UIW’s 49 points in the first half were a season-high for the black and red. The Cardinals’ scoring frenzy was a product of efficient shooting at a rate of 73% from the field in the second quarter, going 59.4% overall in the first half.

Nicholls 71, McNeese 68

THIBODAUX, La. – Facing an 11-point deficit with less than two minutes remaining, the Nicholls State University women’s basketball team stormed back behind 12 points from Anna McKendree as the Colonels rallied late for a 71-68 win over McNeese Wednesday night in their Stopher Gymnasium finale.

McKendree, who led all scorers with a game-high 24 points, scored half of her total in a matter of 90 seconds during the run to pull the Colonels within a point. Her free throw at the 1:51 mark started the run and she followed with three 3-pointers in consecutive possessions.

Central Arkansas 44, Southeastern La. 43

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas women’s basketball team played in the Farris Center for the final time of the 2020-21 season on Wednesday, as the Sugar Bears hosted the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions. Central Arkansas (11-12, 9-6 SLC) defeated Southeastern Louisiana (10-7, 9-5 SLC) 44-43.

With the victory tonight, Head Coach Sandra Rushing collected her 100th Southland Conference win and became just the eighth coach to earn that achievement.

SFA 82, Abilene Christian 55

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — It was Senior Night for the Ladyjacks (21-2, 13-0 SLC) at William R. Johnson Coliseum Wednesday night in the second-to-last regular season contest of the season, highlighted by Marissa Banfield, Alyssa Mayfield and Aaliyah Johnson making their final mark on their home court with a win over the Abilene Christian Wildcats. The trio ended their Ladyjack 57-2 at home, including a Southland Conference Regular Season Championship for the cherry on top to round out the month of February.

New Orleans 65, Northwestern St. 48

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The New Orleans women’s basketball program made it a season-sweep over Northwestern State as the Privateers collected a 65-48 Southland Conference road victory at the Prather Coliseum on Wednesday evening.

Sam Houston 64, A&M-Corpus Christi 47

CORPUS CHRISTI – Amber Leggett and Madelyn Batista each put in 17 points as the Sam Houston Bearkats went on the road and picked up a 64-47 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night at the Dugan Wellness Center.

The win puts the Bearkats (13-6, 9-4 SLC) in position to claim the No. 2 seed in next week’s Southland Conference Tournament, needing either a win over league champion SFA or a loss by Southeastern Louisiana to do so. Earning that seed would mean an automatic berth in the tournament semifinals.
