New Orleans baseball adds 16 to 2020 signing class

The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will welcome aboard 16 new student-athletes to the program. The total class for 2021 now stands at 17 after the Privateers signed Andrew Brautman during the spring period.


-There are eight pitchers in the class and three more who double as pitchers and position players.

-Coach Blake Dean and his staff brought in seven players originally from Louisiana.

-Below is the full list of new Privateers who will join the squad for next season.

Josh Cerejo, RHP, Los Medanos, Calif.

Pitched at Los Medanos JC where he had a 0.83 ERA in 32.2 innings with 39 strikeouts. Cerejo was Second Team All-Conference in 2019, was in the Sophomore Showcase, and earned Academic All-State and All-Conference honors in 2020.

Tyler Pope, INF/RHP, Alexandria, La.

Pope hit .480 in his senior season with Alexandria HS. He was a three-time All-District selection at three different positions (second base, pitcher, shortstop). He also made All-Region as a junior.

Tyler LeBlanc, LHP, Lafayette, La.

LeBlanc earned Class 5A All-State honors as a utility player (pitcher, first base). He was 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA in 14 innings in 2020. At the plate, LeBlanc was hitting .394 with two homers. In 2019, LeBlanc was 6-1 with a 1.95 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 57.1 innings at Lafayette HS.

Andrew Guidry, C, Lafayette, La. 

Guidry was off to a strong start in 2020 with a .370 batting average, two homers, four doubles, and 15 RBI in nine games. He earned Second Team All-District honors as a sophomore and he was an All-State selection in his junior year.

Patrick Apgar, RHP, Little Egg Harbor, N.J.

Apgar comes to the Privateers from Pineland Regional HS. Last year in 43.1 innings, Apgar fanned 54 batters. He also sported a 2.26 ERA and opponents hit just .174 against him.

Vincent Sanchez, INF, Houston, Texas

Sanchez was blistering the ball in 2020 with a .529 batting average for Heights HS. He earned All-District Honorable Mention as a sophomore in 2018 after hitting .352. Sanchez was named All-District as a junior after hitting .392.

Travis Gober, INF/OF, Fate, Texas 

Gober prepped at Rockwall HS where he was First Team All-District in 2019. Gober had a slash line of .369/.509/.773 going in his senior season. Gober had two home runs and five triples.

Connor Macip, RHP, Lafayette, La.

Macip prepped at Teurlings Catholic HS where he was All-District Honorable Mention in 2019. As a senior, he was 1-1 with a save in nine outings (six starts). He had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 24-2 in 30 innings.

Kindred Atwood, RHP, Ayer, Mass.

Atwood struck out 26 batters in just 13.2 innings in 2019. He was a First Team selection twice and had a 2.80 ERA in 2020. Atwood logged 30 innings and recorded 34 strikeouts for Bridgton Academy.

Keegan Rich, LHP/INF, Newnan, Ga.

Rich pitched and played first base for East Coweta HS. He had a 3-0 record on the mound with a 2.03 ERA and a .143 opponent batting average. He also struck out 23 of 44 batters faced. At the plate, Rich hit .323 and slugged .484.

Jalen Cowan, C/INF, Clinton, Miss.

Cowan went to Clinton HS where he was named Athlete of the Month in 2019. He sported a .336 batting average with 46 hits and 35 RBI. Cowan was a four-year varsity player for Clinton. He also pitched in 15 games during his time at Clinton and had a 2.46 ERA.

Beau Blanchard, RHP, New Iberia, La.

Blanchard prepped at Loreauville HS. In 2020, he struck out 30 batters to just five walks and 13 hits issued in 18.2 innings. He was Honorable Mention for 2019 Best of the Teche.

Isaac Williams, OF, Alexandria, La.

Williams comes in ranked as the third best player in Louisiana according to Prep Baseball Report. He was First Team All-State, All-District, and All-Central Louisiana MVP at Tioga. He was also a Prep Baseball Report Super 60 Invite. Williams hit .440 with five homers, 11 doubles, 34 RBI, and 15 stolen bases in 2019.

Jacob Mead, RHP, Round Rock, Texas

Mead transfers to the Privateers from Angelina JC where he was a 2018 JUCO All-Star. He was Second Team All-Conference in 2019 and was a three-sport athlete in high school. Mead was First Team All-District at Cedar Ridge HS in 2017.

Matt Barthelemy, RHP/INF, Belle Chasse, La.

Barthelemy comes to the squad via Delgado CC. At Belle Chasse HS, Barthelemy was a three-time District MVP and made the All-Metro Team. In 2020, Barthelemy hit .375 with 17 RBI and nine steals in 21 games. On the mound, he picked up two saves in five appearances.
