Calaway Dykes, one of the top shooting guards in the Texas prep ranks, has signed to play college basketball at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach Kendre Talley said Tuesday.
The 6-foot-3 Dykes starred for Decatur High School last season, leading his team to a 27-9 record, averaging 22.3 points, 3.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. He shot 87 percent from the free-throw line and 49 percent from 3-point range.
He made the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 4A All-State team and was the TABC’s Individual 4A Free Throw Winner. He was named as the offensive most valuable player on the All-Wise County list chosen by the Wise County Messenger and was ranked as the 43rd-best prospect in Texas by Rivals.com.
“I am super excited for Calaway to join the family,” Talley said. “He is a tough combo guard that can help in multiple areas on the floor. There is no surprise that he is a top-100 player in Texas.
“He’s a really good player now, but I am even more excited about the player he will be in the near future. He comes from a great family and it is reflected in his character and mannerisms. He is the type of kid who makes teams better.”
Dykes is the first player to sign with OC for the 2021-22 season.
