Late first-half run leads LCU to dominant victory

FRISCO – The defending national champions broke open a close game by ending the first half on a 15-4 run and continued to extend their lead throughout the second half.

Four different players scored in double figures for the Lady Chaps (26-3) led by Madelyn Turner who scored 18 points followed by Caitlyn Cunyus (17), Ashton Duncan (11) and Allie Schulte (21).

The main question for the Lady Chaps is the health of Lone Star Conference Player of the Year Maddi Chitsey who departed in the third quarter with a left leg injury.

Chitsey was able to return to the lineup and LCU head coach Steve Gomez believes she will not miss any time with the injury.

Senior Deā€™Anira Moore led Angelo State with 26 points and fellow senior Catara Samuel added 13 points for the Rambelles.

Angelo State (18-10) now awaits the Division II selection show on Sunday night at 9 p.m. to see if they will earn an at-large bid to the tournament. The Belles were seventh in the final regional rankings with the top eight teams earning a spot in the South Central Regional.
