Cameron uses constant pressure to dominate MSU

The Cameron Aggies turned the pressure on Midwestern State from the opening tip on Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The result was a dominating 81-46 victory, the Aggies’ fourth straight win against the Mustangs in the Red River Rivalry.

The Aggies’ consistent pressure forced MSU into committing 33 turnovers, which resulted in 27 points for Cameron.

“They have a good press. When we broke it the way we were supposed to, we were fine – we just didn’t do it consistently,” MSU coach Christopher Reay said. “They were hungry coming off a loss to TWU, and we started decently. However, once he hit a lull, we went back to the old version of us, and that’s not going to be successful.”

The Mustangs turned to Morgan Lenahan, with Frances King in foul trouble throughout the contest, and the senior led MSU with 14 points. Cameron’s Katie King recorded a double-double the hard way with 14 points and 11 steals.

“We did rely on Morgan a lot tonight,” Reay said. “We have to do a better job of being smarter on defense with how we reach and what we go after. At times, we have done well in those areas, but tonight we didn’t.”

The Mustangs travel to meet No. 8 Lubbock Christian and Eastern New Mexico next week before returning home to play Texas Woman’s at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
