ASC MBB: Quartet of players receive weekly honors

Four players laid claim to the American Southwest Conference Player of the Week honors with Kae’ron Baker from Louisiana College and Luke Couch from Belhaven sharing East Division honors while Concordia’s Spencer Bone and Hardin-Simmons’s Aidan Walsh shared West Division distinction.

CO-EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEKKae’ron Baker, Sr., G, Louisiana College

Louisiana College senior Kae’ron Baker (Navasota, Texas) averaged 25.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game as the Wildcats opened the season with a pair of conference victories. He scored 16 points with six assists in an 72-51 victory over Howard Payne. Baker then tied a career-high with 35 points, 24 of which came in the second half to help overcome a ten-point deficit, in a 79-73 win over Sul Ross State. This is his fourth career Player of the Week honors.


Belhaven sophomore guard Luke Couch (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) led all players with 29 points in a 79-77 victory over Sul Ross State. He also recorded two rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block while shooting 53.3 percent (8-of-15) for the Blazers.

CO-WEST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEKSpencer Bone, Jr., F, Concordia Texas

Concordia Texas junior forward Spencer Bone (Cibolo, Texas) scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half and led the Tornados to a season-opening 106-101 non-conference win over Mary-Hardin-Baylor last Friday. Bone shot 8-of-10 from behind the arc and snagged five rebounds as the Tornados held on the Cru late for the road win. This is Bone’s second career Player of the Week award.

CO-WEST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEKAidan Walsh, So., G, Hardin-Simmons

Hardin-Simmons sophomore guard Aidan Walsh (Katy, Texas) averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as the Cowboys defeated the defending ASC champion and runner-up on the road. He scored a career-high 29 points with six rebounds, hitting five three-pointers in an 84-79 win at LeTourneau. Walsh followed with 11 points and three assists in an 84-83 victory at East Texas Baptist. This is his second Player of the Week of the season.
